Hi Guys!

I would really appreciate some help with this.  I have just tried to make this for a friend:

http://knittingdivine.blogspot.com/2007/07/lacy-beret-free-pattern.html

Where I went wrong is after row 16 where it says to keep increasing to row 50. . . so I thought following the sequence it seemed to be setting you would get:

Row 17: (yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k4, k2tog) x8
Row 18: (p8, ssp) x8
Row 19: (yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k5, k2tog) x8
Row 20: (p9, ssp) x8

. . . . and so on until I get:

Row 49: (yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k20, k2tog) x8
Row 50: (p24, ssp) x8 . . . .

But I ended up with way too much knitting! Luckily the hat will be fine for my friend as she can carry off the tea cosy look, but I'd really like another go at this. .. . . Any suggestions at all?

Thanks in advance!

That would seem to be the way to knit it, but did you measure the center medallion. You keep increasing to row 50 OR 11-13" across.

Hi SoozeQ

Thanks.

Yep, the circumference of the medallion was fine, but the circumference was too big so it all puffed and puckered up rather than making a flat beret like the original, if you can imagine what I mean?

Hmmm, so then maybe your decs were too much or the ribbing pulled in tighter. So next time, try the medallion at a smaller size.
