Help!  I want to make a sort of utility belt for a costume I'm working on, and I'd like it to have pockets like these: http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_430xN.46414336.jpg

If the link doesn't work, it's a pocket that's 3D and stands out from the surface of the belt/bag/whatever, with a flap that folds over the top and snaps closed.

I have no idea what this kind of pocket is called or how to construct it.

Anyone know of any tutes or patterns I could use or even what this type of pocket is called?

I've never seen a tute or pattern for that.  It basically looks like you need to make the little square and put a small gusset on it and then sew the gusset to the belt.  You'll have to decide if you want them lined or raw on the inside.
I'd say you get all the little square bags sewn on and then you could put all the flaps on.
It won't be too hard, just a little working and figuring out.  Especially the exact size you want.  Just play with it a bit.

They look like coin purses to me--maybe that would be a good place to start looking for a pattern. I am making a utility belt myself so if I find something better I will keep you posted. Smiley
