my partner received her package, so I can now show off this item.   Grin

this is my first real attempt at working with polyclay...whether you want to believe it or not after looking at this.

my Harry Potter swap partner likes phoenixes, and it just so happens that I had found this really pretty project in one of my jewelry making magazines.  it's called "Two Turtle Doves" by polyclay artist Christi Friesen (http://www.cforiginals.net/)

I thought this would make a great opportunity to make a phoenix for my partner.  so...I did.

this is pre-varnish, so it's not as bright of a red in this pic as it is in real life (and the top of the wing doesn't look so weird).  plus, it's kinda hard to see the sparkles.  I used cherry red and red effects Fimo.  this thing measures about 6"x3".

tell me what you think   Smiley

now you can see the finished product here!

thank you so much!   Grin

I know I could have done better, but for my first attempt, I'm super happy with it.  then again, the artist is usually the one who is most critical of their piece, so I should just shut up now.   Roll Eyes

Very nice and I know your partner will be thrilled!!  (btw, Christi gave a class at our polymer clay guild last year and she's off-the-wall energetic, and hilarious Grin)

kaleesi, did I miss something here? Huh   Christi's work  http://www.cforiginals.net doesn't usually have fingerprints or other stuff like that.  Or were you perhaps comparing this to any polymer items in the Harry Potter swap, etc, or something?

P.S.
For those of you interested in making things in this style, Christi has a number of downloadable projects as well as medium-short books at her site that cost only $3-10 or so.

I think that she meant that it was great there were no fingerprints on the red phoenix, seeing as it was her first time using polyclay, not that the other lady's items had fingerprints in them.

thank you so much everyone!

and I e-mailed Christi about wanting to share this picture with her and she said to go ahead and send it, but she never commented back.   Sad  she probably just got really busy.

thanks again!!!
