woot woot! my first hat pattern! i've already had a girl at work ask me to write it out for her, and i've only worn it once!

... and a cloe-up of the stitching

do you think i could add a bill to it? i love hats with bills... just not sure how to do it!
thanks for looking!

okay, so here's my thing - for some reason my friends tell me i crochet kinda tight, so if you're a looser crochet-type person, i'd use a smaller hook

Caron simply soft yarn, 5.0mm hook

to start, ch 4, join w/ sl st
Rnd 1: hdc 6 in ring
Rnd 2: hdc 2 in each st (12)
Rnd 3: *hdc 1 in first st, then hdc 2 in next. Repeat * around (18)
Rnd 4: *hdc 1 in first 2 st, hdc 2 in third. Repeat * around (24)
Rnd 5: *hdc 1 in first 3 st, hdc 2 in fourth. Repeat * around (30)
Rnd 6-7-8: continue increasing (36, 42, 48)
Rnd 9: *sc in first st, skip 2, dc 5 in next, skip 2, sc in next. Repeat * around (shell row)
Rnd 10: *tc in each sc, then dc, hdc, sc, hdc, dc across shell. Repeat * around
Rnd 11: *hdc 1 in first 7 st, hdc 2 in eighth. Repeat * around (54)
Rnd 12-13: increase (60, 66)
Rnd 14: Repeat Rnd 9
Rnd 15: Repeat Rnd 10
Rnd 16: *hdc 1 in first 10, hdc 2 in eleventh. Repeat * around (72)
Rnd 17: hdc 1 in each
Rnd 18: *hdc 1 in first 11, hdc 2 in twelfth. Repeat * around (78)
Rnd 19+: Repeat rnd 9 as needed (i believe i did six rounds of shell stitches). The sc always goes into the top of the shells, and the shells go into the sc
3rd Rnd from end: Repeat rnd 10
Last 2 rows: sc in each (should still have 78 around)

I need to get rid of stuff!! i have soap kits, bath salt kits, lip balm kits, plain canvas tote bags, fabric paints, and other stuff i'm trying to clean out. It'd be cool to swap for yarn, but i'll give it away FREE! PM me if you're interested!!!

That's so lovely! Did you make the pattern all yourself? If you're giving it away I'f love a copy, I've had bad luck with the last few patterns I've tried but I'm determined to succeed! x

That is a very pretty hat and I would also like a copy if you write out the pattern.  As for making a bill there is a useful "pattern" on knitty.com here, http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTcouvercle.html that I have used before.

ditto on the knitty link.

I love the hat and I think it would look great with a bill.

Thanks for the pattern.  Hopefully I can try it before the end of the month of December.
