Well I thought I would share with my crafty friends a bit of my island life here in Shetland. We are a tiny isolated group of islands ,the furthest northerly islands in the UK, with some of the most beautiful scenery I have the honor to see everyday. We are currently in our long long winter nights but the pay off is the long long summer days with almost no darkness. I hope you enjoy my photos comments are welcomed and appreciated.

The snow this weekend as viewed from my back porch

Our foot prints on the beach by our house

Looking over the beach towards my house

My baby boy in our living room window enjoying our view over the Voe

My Craft studio with this view that is art in itself, I am so so so lucky sometimes I feel I need to pinch myself  Grin

Looking down over our tiny hamlet my house is somewhere down there Grin

Sheep looking in one of the many old croft houses to explore

Sunset the other day

My pals the sheep in my garden enjoying the rain and the grass

Snow this friday again from my house

Sunset at the harbor

Lighthouse

Perwinkles on the beach... people eat these... not me tho lol!

The beautiful cliffs further north on the island

Thanks so much for looking I hope you enjoyed the small peak into my life here up North! Smiley

Thanks so much for the comments!! Your all so sweet.

QB I hope you do get to visit here someday it is a beautiful place like no other and I realize how lucky I am to call it home, and if ever you do visit drop me a line, I am always happy to be tour guide.

Oh and the sheep out number the humans here, they roam free and are the biggest road hazard, lol, they cause more hold up than anything as traffic is a non issue here, lol Grin Altho I can get cheap raw wool anytime too bad I havent learned to spin wool yet  Undecided I dont think I have the patience hehe
But thanks again for the kind comments I realize I am no professional photographer but with scenery like here its hard to take a bad picture I think.

The photos are also beautifully taken. I really like the sheep looking through the old window picture.

Thanks again so much for all the nice comments. I am very lucky to live here but I do sometimes forget that in all honesty, especially when the sun is only up for a few hours and its windy and cold, lol. But it always is stunning and as a nature lover it is pure raw nature here.

Ineee you certainly should come here to visit some time seeing as we are only a few hundred miles apart and Shetland shares alot of its heritage and culture with Norway  Smiley and I always am happy to welcome crafty travellers.

I will try and update this thread with pictures when I can there is always something I want to take a photo of lol Smiley

All the best to you my crafty friends and thanks again.

You may not want to share those photos after all.  You'll be overrun with people wanting to live in the most enchanting place on earth.  I have certainly added Sheltand to my "must visit before I die" list.  Great photography!

It really warms my heart to read all these lovely replies. And yes Shetland is enchanting but with less than 22,000 people in total here there is plenty of room for visitors and those who do end up moving here. I am going to try and get out today and take some more photos so I might have some more to share soon, I am so glad you all enjoy my photos, thanks again so much you wonderful craftsters for your comments!!

So the man and I just got back from a long walk on what we thought was going to be a sunny winters day.... Undecided
But as soon as we got down the beach the wind and hail battered us but none the less I got a few more pictures to share. Even tho my face is still burning from the hail and the sand getting blown at me at force 1000 gales lol. Grin Here they are I hope you enjoy them as well.

Just as the storm was coming in it looks beautiful but we werent expecting it, really we should know better the weather changes every few minutes here, lol

The man walking on the beach

The restored croft house with thatched roof... they hold knitting groups in there, its now a small community gathering place

The sun setting

The cliffs before the storm got us

The horses and somewhere hiding the shetland ponies at the cliffs

The beach looking towards my house

And the sheep with the bird on its back... it never fails to make me laugh

And last but not least the pic my man took of me getting battered with hail and sand at the beach

So there you have it some more pictures and another glimpse into my day today in Shetland.
Thanks again for looking and commenting it makes my day so much brighter!! Kiss

Amazing photos. Thank you for sharing

I want to move to Shetland.

At least you have beautiful scenery, horses, beaches and sheep to off set your cold. I have a noisy city, and gross slush. The winter in Toronto is so bleak.

How did you get to live in such a beautiful place? Were you born Irish? I've always wanted to live in the UK, particularly Ireland, I just don't see how I could get a visa and afford it and everything! so how???

Wow I am really blown away at the reaction to the scenery here, I guess I do take it for granted a bit Undecided lol. But you all are so amazing thanks for all the comments.

I also wanted to explain a bit about geographically where we are as it can be a bit confusing to those that havent been here. Shetland is part of Scotland it lies in the middle of the North Sea and the Atlantic. It is a 14 hour ferry journey from the mainland of Scotland to Shetland and it is very very isolated , but that being said Shetland has a thriving community, infact we just got voted as the Top place in Scotland for quality of life Grin

Wow you all, thanks so much for the great comments and feedback!!! I just am blown away by all the response and kind comments  Shocked your all fab fab fab and have made me smile so much!

I also wanted to say I feel I have a bit of a duty to explain that where I live is not Ireland in fact I live over 700 miles away from Ireland. All my photos are of Shetland which is part of Scotland. We are actually nearer to Norway but none the less we are Scottish Cheesy Anyway I will certainly add new photos to this thread when I can and again I thank you all. Kiss

I haven't logged into craftster for quite some time, but saw your pic in the "hot new topics" and instantly though - that SO looks like somewhere round here. Not quite though Cheesy I'm in the Western Isles Smiley

The boy worked on the ferry for a while, he's got some awesome pics from when he got ashore, I'd love to visit some time (when I've got time  Roll Eyes )

I also wanted to say I feel I have a bit of a duty to explain that where I live is not Ireland in fact I live over 700 miles away from Ireland.

I don't think there'll ever be a time when I don't get asked if I'm Irish or Welsh, for some reason mainlanders always ask that.

Lovely photos though, it's tough to get pics as good as your's with the light and weather at the moment!
