Those are amazing and beautiful!
I got a quilting book for christmas and I was also drawn to the mariner's compass design (why do I always like the most difficult/expensive things???). It's so pretty.

I applaud you!  Wonderful job; amazing.  I've never seen this exact design before either, and both quilts look great. Really something to be proud of.  I am particularly impressed by the 3-months time span!
