Once long, long ago, sometime in the 70's I think, my mother started a cross -stitch project to end all cross stitch projects. She was going to make a 12 days of Christmas tree skirt. 

Sometime in the 90's, when my mom gave up cross-stitch (possibly because of this project) I got all her supplies including 4 completed days of Christmas.

Now at least 10 years later during a decluttering mission in my craft room I found the pieces.  Now given the hours (days, weeks, months) my mom must have spent doing these I couldn't quite bear to throw them out.  So I used some strips from leftover holiday fabric to make a border and made a table runner. 

I used a sheet for the back and quilted in the ditch around the frames. I didn't add any batting since I wanted it to be fairly flat. Here's a close up of the border:

I'm going to give it to my mom for the holidays. I'm thinking she'll get a kick out of it when she recognizes the cross-stitching.

I really like that!  How cool to do something to finish it up (sort of) and then give it back to your mom.  I really think that's a neat idea!

employed = hardly any time to sew :-(
