Steam punk desk set (now with tutorial pg 2)

I made my husband a World of Warcraft desk set. Since he normally plays Gnomes I did it in a more steampunk type style with gears and contraptions. It consists of a mouspad redone from a freebie mouse pad from dell, a hand-bound journal from recycled paper and a gadget type pen that folds out. Originally it was bright green.

While I was at it I made myself a journal/pen combo in the same style using more victorian aspects of steampunk. Here's the whole set.



Just the pens:

The mousepad with the world of warcraft map on it. At the top I used brads beads and metal flashing to get a geared look:

For my journal I designed  the corset octopus. (all drawings are hand drawn due to a botch transfer but I had some faint lines  to work from in most cases.)

Nice work! The mousepad looks well aged What did you use to age it like that, or was that the way it was printed already? Did you seal it with something?

The journal looks great. Very mish-mashed, which is quite the Steampunk look.

Can I ask, where did you get the pens from? I live in Australia, but I would LOVE to get my hands on some.

The map is one from the game (It's aged looking in the game too) so I just needed to print it out. I did layer another map of one of the dungeons (the original gnome hometown) on top of it as well.  Then I used a photoshop type program to add the old post it note looking things to bring in specific things my husband has talked about. I used heavy cardstock to print it and didn't seal it with anything since I want to make sure the mouse could grip it (Though I imagine there's faulty old pre-optical mouse logic in there.)

Normally when i age stuff i use strong tea, though i didn't need to with this one.

I got the pens at Walgreens drug store but they were on clearance so i doubt they stell have them. I should have picked up more.

And what do the notes on the mousepad say?

The notes have a couple different things. 

One is something to the effect of "Contact Leroy Jenkins. He may be wiling to test the new gadget."  (if you play WoW, you probably get the joke.)

The other one has a list of to do's:

• Complete Pink Mechanized Bunny
• contact XXXX (my husbands guild) for possible reword of tabard design

My husband is a guild leader and the pink bunny is a private guild joke.

I was going to use one of my husbands character names but he keeps changing which one he plays so I decided not too. (He's got 5+ 70's and at least one 80 now)
