Hi! This is my first post here and I've been wanting to re-create the costume from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland since the photos got out.

Here are some pictures:

For the coat I bought Butterick B4929 ( http://www.butterick.com/item/B4929.htm ) (the black long one)

I was wondering from if anyone knew what the best fabric I could use for the coat (or what the actual fabric is used in the real one)? Here's the link to more pictures:

Do you think there's a pattern to make the navy vest (velvet?)

Has anyone else tried to re-create this? What are your ideas? Please share!
I would also love to know where I can find those shoes/boots too!

Thanks so much for any help!

I'm not making the coat but I'm making the skirt.  Just waiting for my rick rack and some free time.  In all honesty it probably won't happen until mid December.

I was looking for coat patterns, and I agree that that one seems to be the best!

I would probably go with a wool for the coat.

Here is a source for jumbo ricrac, but I'm not sure if any of the available colors are exactly right:

Perhaps White could be dyed the proper shade of blue?

Hey, cool!! I just bought that coat pattern! I have yet to use it. It looks like it will work great. Yes, wool for the coat.

What a great costume!!

Oooh. I loved the coat in Lemony Snicket but now I want the Alice one.
I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product.
Good luck.
