This is yet another Christmas gift, this time for a family member who works with architectural design. I downloaded a Frank Lloyd Wright blueprint from Google Images, which I then reversed and printed on photo paper. I used a technique suggested in the transfer thread here at Craftster, but I had to tweak it to make it work. (I wet the fabric instead of the paper.)

The fabric is cut out of an old bed sheet, and I used almost all back stitch in blue floss. My husband chose the floss color to come as close as we could to true blueprint color. It's framed in a simple black frame, and I printed a Wikipedia entry that gives background info on the buildling and attached it to the back of the frame.

My biggest headache was struggling with fabric tension and possibly the weave of the fabric causing my lines to look not so straight despite my following the printed lines exactly. I'm also not happy with the puckering where I did the long and short stitch on the thicker lines--another tension issue. It helped that my husband kept reminding me that this is an embroidered interpretation of a blueprint and will not look the same as a pen drawing. The obsessive-compulsive side of me took over and turned this into a monster of a project, but I finally stepped back, looked at it from a distance, and pronounced it acceptable.

Thanks for looking!

Fantastic!  I love, love, love it!  It's a great representation and the issues you mentioned are just part of the medium and I think compliment your version.  I'm a huge fan of floor plans and really dig how you included it with the elevation.

This is stunning.  I love it!  I think blueprints really lend themselves to embroidery, and this is a perfect example of that.
