Crazy Quilted Christmas Cracker Crowns

phizzychick, your crowns themselves-  i see they are quilted, but are they also pieced somehow? Like a crazy quilt or something?

Hmmm...this makes me think that a completely cloth "cracker stuffy" would be a really cute Christmas toy for kids - a soft fabric tube with a crown and little stuffies inside that they can pull out and put back...*lightbulb*

Yep, they're all different fabrics pieced together. I made a crown template out of paper and then just played with fabric on top until I liked the pattern, then pinned and sewed them up. The backs are just one piece though. It's the first time I've ever done anything like this so I was amazed when it worked out! Of course the bobbles on top help to make the turnouts at the top look neat

That would be awesome! You could even have a little comic book style 'bang' embroidered onto a star that pulls out!

ha ha! that's what i thought. piece the little mini crazy quilts, then treat it like a regular sheet of fabric. trace the crown and voila! i'm giddy to start this project! a great scrap buster, and so much fun!

The crowns are very fun. So much prettier that the paper ones.
I always thought crackers would be a lot of fun, but they haven't really caught on in the US. Until now...

batgirl - How about opening them on Christmas eve and finding PJs inside? It can be a pillow for the bed.

For assembling the crown you could cut the template out of muslin or interfacing (like foundation piecing a quilt part), stitch the bits down on it, add the backing and ribbon.
Phizzy, roughly what size are the crowns you made.

I ADORE these. I'm the lucky gal who got the crackers from Phizzy and I my kid immediately put his crown on his head and stared lovingly into his zombies eyes. I am totally swiping the idea and making them for everyone this Christmas.
