my husband bought me this great old bike off of craig's list, but when we got it home, we realized she was no longer street-worthy...i learned this the hard way (downhill!)

she's such a 'tomato' though, and i really don't think she deserves bulky trash day just yet.
i'd be extremely grateful to anyone who can help me come up with an excuse to keep her.   Huh

Whats wrong with it? Old Schwinns are really easy to fix up, honestly. I have a green 60's Breeze. Totally comfortable bikes, you should really consider making it ride-able.

If not, CL it for parts.

i tried finding the bar that snapped in half when the handlebars pulled loose (ouch) online, but i've had no luck whatsoever....the shot of her standing up straight is totally posed, the mister is holding the handlebar so the whole thing doesn't clatter apart.

any ideas are welcome, though!

I was thinking you meant brakes failed...
Are you saying the handlebars came off when a rod broke inside that vertical part? I think that's how they are made... My bikes keep getting stolen... I had a Schwinn when I was nine. Be a blue 1960 bike...
Do you not live near a bike shop? Most of them will look at the bike and give ya an estimate to fix and/or sell you the parts.
If not, you can try taking the parts to a hardware store, I usually go to my local ACE for these moments, and ask them if they have some parts to fit. They probably do.

Oh, alright. Thats actually a pretty simple part to find. I'd actually give you that part, from an actual Schwinn Breeze, but my boyfriend's using it.

Go here, and post a wanted ad in the classifieds. You'll be able to get a proper part for cheap enough.

thanks everybody, now i'm all inspired to fix her up and get her ready to roll again--maybe as a gift to my younger sister when she goes to college next year.

I'm glad you're going to fix her... My first thought when seeing your post was "NOOOOOO! Don't junk it!"
