Double-sided melted CD tealite votives link/tutorial
«

I'd been looking around for a while for instruction on making melted CD candle holders - but couldn't find one that had the silver on both sides. I experimented one day and the results were pretty good -- I ended up making a set of 3 as a gift for a friend.
Basically you just put 2 CDs together - shiny sides out and set on an upside-down oven-proof cup -- oven at 375 degrees for about 10 mins or until it droops down over the cup. Mine turned out silver on the inside, with the side exposed to heat a glittery white.
Full instructions are here -

That's really cute. It's weird how the outside separates partially from the inside.

What an awesome idea! They are gorgeous! Does it smell really bad when you melt them?

Okay so once again I am completely redoing my pictures. Got tired of photobucket, the only reason I used it was for here so I decided I will just use Craftster's photo uploader. So while I am switching over my photo links will be broken. Message me if there is a post you would like the pics for.

in the tutorial it says to open windows when baking this in the oven. which leads me to the question, what kind of fumes do they give off when baking?

I had to try this as soon as I saw it! I had some colored cds laying around so I made a red one and a silver one. It's really interesting, I made one using a scratched Alice in Chains cd and it came out white and sparkly, but the blank cds came out silver and iridescent.
Here's a pic and thanks for the instructions!

This is a great idea! It looks so pretty! Did you notice an odour or something when you made it?
