I needed a tote bag sturdy enough for heavy books.  This is what I came up with.  It is lined on the inside.  I used a rug from our local dollar store and scrap fabric and buttons I had in my stash.  The whole project cost me a buck, and just a little bit of time, and it serves the purpose intended for.

random question - did you sew it using a machine? i just thought, rugs must be pretty thick, n so difficult to sew 2 pieces together?

looks amazing though, and a great idea!!!

Yes, I used a machine with a size 16 needle.  I also set it to a bigger stitch.
