no, it's not morbid to want to save a bit of hair from someone you love, the victorians made jewelry out of it!

I don't think it's morbid at all to want a little reminder. I think freeze dry and taxidermy would be over the top for me. Adding a pets fur to the sheep wool would be great.
I would love to have little bunny sculptures of my bunny that just passed and my first that passed years ago. The problem with that is even tho in the pic you can see that she is a sable color, all the sable was in the tip of the hair, the rest of the hair was a creamy color. Similarly with the first and one of my remaining house buns.

I just received as a birthday present, a book called "Fleece Dogs", which tells you how to do just this -- use dog fur (w/ or w/o sheep wool) to replicate your dog.  It looks really cool and I'd love to try it!

That's the book that inspired me to needle felt! I had never heard of needle felting before coming across Fleece Dogs by accident in a bookstore.

Here is a pic of my very first needle felted dog. It took me only 2 hours, but I have progressed somewhat since then! That was almost 2 years ago now, and my sculptures take me more like 12 hours and are more firmly felted. 
I've become more obsessed with detail.

That is cuter than most real poodles I know!  I have been meaning to collect some of my cat's hair to felt with... I don't think it's creepy at all. Whats the difference between taking some hair from an animal you know instead of one you don't?

Do you mind if I ask where you get your eyes from? I have been using just black beads, but a little more character might be nice.

Your work is amazing! Such a great idea, especially using the dog's actual fur. All the fur just goes into the trash anyway when they get groomed, so cheers for the creative reuse, too! The black-and-tan cocker spaniel you did made me especially happy, since it looks so much like mine.  And cheers also to finding such a lovely way to combine a passion for crafting and a passion for animals into something that can generate income and make people happy!
