2nd poodle with poodle fur

This is my second needle felt sculpture using poodle fur given to me by the owner of the dog.
 


I carded some of the fur with wool, then I embellished the sculpture with just the poodle fur so the curls were more obvious.

no, it's not morbid to want to save a bit of hair from someone you love, the victorians made jewelry out of it!

Well I guess I'm just mixing dog hair with sheep "hair"!! So to speak.

I have done a few memorial sculptures with fur from passed away pets. I guess its a good way to use the fur other than just having it in a box somewhere. (People save locks of people's hair.)

I don't feel as creeped out if I know the dog (or cat) is still living though, I must admit. But I guess I kind of understand why it can mean so much to someone at the same time. 

This particular dog is still alive (18 years old apparently!!!).

My sculptures fit in the palm of your hand, and I don't market them as toys, only because they aren't conducive to heavy handling! They're to look at not to play with!

That's beautiful, and I personally don't see why dog hair would be any worse than sheep wool or rabbit fur   As long as it is clean of course

I just received as a birthday present, a book called "Fleece Dogs", which tells you how to do just this -- use dog fur (w/ or w/o sheep wool) to replicate your dog.  It looks really cool and I'd love to try it!
