That cactus was crocheted with fun fur. As far as I know there is no way to turn plain fleece into fur. However they do make "plush" fleece I think.
The other option is to buy a faux fur fabric or even a inexpensive stuffed toy at a thrift store and use the fur from it.
now you could also try buying "chenille" to sew on to the fabric and then brush it but I have no idea how mush the stuff costs. I know you can buy it by the roll and you stitch down the center of the "ribbon" to the fabric, then you brush the whole thing and when you are done it's furry.

Crocheting isn't all that hard and that person has even got a pdf chart for the cactus on their blog. Smiley

I tried to learn from my mom too and found it really hard becasue of how she taught me. I actually wound up buying a book online called the "happy hooker" and it is what I used to learn to crochet. I also used a few websites and I'd be happy to pass them on to you if you'd like.
You will need to be able to watch videos on your computer.

The main thing to remember is to keep practicing. Also it helps to have a yarn you really like that isn't fluffy or furry to practice with till you are comfortable with the techniques. If you are constantly fighting with the yarn you won't enjoy it and you will get frustrated.

my mom teaches good, problem is she needs to find some patience to teach me because when she taught me ch stitch  she forgot to tell me to twist the hook and it was frustrating. very.
