Hey!  I've been checking out this site for a long time but never bothered join until today.  I'm a fellow Winnipegger, currently studying pattern construction and design parttime at the UofM.  If anyone needs a custom pattern drawn for them, let me know - I can't do everything (yet) but give me a shout anyway.  My big thing is sewing - I sew everything from dresses to shirts to corsets.  Yes, corsets.  And I wear them, too.  I also do photography, I'm a web geek, and a musician, as well as a general lover of doing general crafts.

Someone was asking about where people like to shop - Micheals is nice if you get one of their 40% off coupons in the paper for general craft things.  For fabric, my favorite store is Mitchel's on Main and Logan, but there's a whole bunch in St. James that are good, too.

That is so neat that you've sewn corsets.  I have a pattern for one, and a few sites bookmarked about how to make one that fits your body, but I haven't actually attempted it yet.

Hey bassgirl I am glad you are here! Another Winnipegger on the board is always a good thing.

I have heard about Mitchel's on Main but I don't trust myself going in there and coming out with my bank account and sanity intact. Knowing me I will buy stuff assuming I could just magically do it and then get a bit frustrated because it wasn't as easy as I thought and then beg my mom to do it and she would say she is too busy and then get to it maybe a year later...(I have been waiting for a pair of pants to be hemmed for 2 years cause I don't know how to do it and I have lost a bit of weight so the pants are a bit big now and I don't like them so much anymore).

Are any of you U of Mers going to the Halloween social?

I went to the Malpractice social last year and didn't really like it all that much.  So now I'm searching for another place to go and not really finding anything.

Oh I know!  It's my favourite holiday actually.  All of the stuff I've heard of so far isn't really a dress-up in a costume thing.   One of my friends wants to go to Skalloween, and another wants to go to the thing Die Maschine is having on the Friday.  But alas, neither are costume things.

You can always wear a costume!! On Friday night I was a the Toad on Osborne and a large group of people in costumes came in. And last night around 2:30 I saw people walking over the bridge on Osborne dressed up as the Ghostbusters!

Last year a bunch of friends and I just went to a bar on the Fri night and there were a lot of people dressed in costume...I'd say about 75% of the people there.
