So, to help out a friend who's having financial problems, I'm going to be creating paintings to sell. At first I was planning on a primitive approach to sell them, just sitting on a bench somewhere in the East Side, which is the artsy part of the city (Milwaukee). Recently I started thinking about sitting outside coffee shops, like Starbucks or Alterra...but I don't know if that's a good idea. Does anyone here have any other ideas on where to sell them, particularly in the Milwaukee, WI area?

eBay is now charging 17% final value fee for anything over $100 sold through the eBay stores. Then you tack on about 7% - 10% for PayPal...

Can what you are selling, tolerate a 25-35% markup just to recover your cost of marketing?

Some items are price sensitive (like seed beads) and will never sell if that happens - some items (like fine art) can be marked up as high as you want.

eBay is huge, but tread cautiously. You can't even "neg" a buyer anymore, even if they treat you like crud, call you names, are late on their payment, make up excuses, trash your auction, send in a bad check, or whatnot. The buyers can still "neg" you though! Nice and fair isn't it.

Does anyone know of a similar site but UK based (ie. where I can list in )? By the time you take into account Esty and paypal fees i don't fancy getting slapped with a fee for exchanging into pounds as well, especially since having to sell in US$ will put off many UK/EU customers.
Thanks!

Hi, there's a relatively new site called Tuggle where you can sell handmade goods.  However, there is an annual subscription but you can list up to 50 items.  You add your postage onto your goods so it looks like free postage and packing.  Hope this helps.

Well im in a jewelry class and I adore many of the things I make, however I have a few that I would be willing to part with... The problem is each piece takes 10+ hours, so they are not "quick and easy" pieces, also they are all one of a kind. But im worndeing how do I sell only a few pieces? I was looking at etsy but Ive heard many complaints about it... but is there anywhere else that would be better for my few unwanted items??

Thanks for any help you can give me!!!
