If anyone is into yarn crafts, there is a store called SIP N Knit http://www.sipandknit.com in Winter Park.  They are pricey though and the owner is not very nice.

The Black Sheep has knitting, cross-stitching, and needlepoint supplies http://www.theblacksheepshop.com/.

These places aren't cheap though, unless you find stuff on clearance.

I wish I knew of some helpful stuff instead of places that are just so-so.

Sam Flax is probably my favorite art store, it's on E. Colonial and Shire in "Colonialtown"- across from the cool looking Publix.  As lainasalvo said there is also the Pearl on 436. And there is also Art Systems. I don't know about Pearl but the other two give discounts to students.

I wish we had a good yarn shop. I heard the one in Mount Dora was nice, but I've never been.

A good place for sewing stuff that you can't find anywhere else would be Sewing Studio on 17-92.

And beads! I like the bead store on Edgewater Drive, I can't remember the name. I new store called the Bead Basket opened up across from UCF- the University/Alafaya intersection...it's near me so I need to check it out but I haven't yet.

Due to lack of money I do most of my shopping for ALL craft stuff at JoAnn's and Michaels with the 40% coupons in the paper every Sunday, or the ones JoAnn's sends in the mail- be sure to sign up for the ml. And yep, the craft shop at Waterford is called Crafts n Stuff. Sometimes they have coupons too. I just can't afford anything at full price! arr!

wow! i didn't know there were so many of us on here! i 've been to all the craft places everyone has listed in orlando .... michaels, 2 diff joanns, hancock, crafts n stuff, sam flax, art systems, perl and sip n knit ( i completely agree with brena80 on this place... awesome yarn, very expensive owner a little snobby to young not-so-experienced knitters - that being said if you kinda play the "your a knitting godess please help me" card they'll help you know problem, just watch the price of the yarns they are giving you Wink )

if anyone finds another yarn store please lemme know ... i'm just recently getting into knitting and i don't have the money for sip n knit

Hi all!  I will be moving to Ocala at the end of June, from way up north as my name shows.  Anyways, do any of you know of any knitting groups in the area?  Since I know absolutely no one in the area, I think it would be a great way to get acquainted with those in the area.  Or, if you don't know of any, is anyone interested in starting a group for those north of Orlando?  Heck, why limit it to knitting?  I'm open to suggestions....

New Orlando Area knitting shop, cause I can't stand to go to Sip n' Knit either:

Knit
Fox Valley Drive, Longwood

I don't have the exact address, but its across Fox Valley from the 7-11 just off Wekiva Springs Road. The owners are two crafty sisters who thought a knitting store would be better than retirement - even better, they're wicked nice.

I almost forgot, Skycraft Surplus, near the intersection of Fairbanks Ave and I-4 has lots of odds and ends that are fun to play with.

I'm way over in Clearwater, just west (and over the causeway) of Tampa - which I guess makes me not so central, haha.   Grin  But there's got to be some crafty gals (and guys!) this side of the Big O!

I do many many different kinds of crafting, but very few of the more "conventional" ones, like knitting/ crochet/embroidery - but I'm learning!  In the meantime, I  sew, and sometimes even print my own fabric (and carve my own printing blocks).  I also am quite fond of crafting wire-and-bead jewelry, making things from little bits of felt/cloth, and the outdated wonders of macrame.  ...and drawing, and puttering about with clay (polymer and kiln-fired), and finding unconventional and/or forgotten traditional uses for my crafts.  And lately I've been obsessed with traditional Japanese handicrafts.

Does anyone have any shops to recommend over on my side?  Is anyone from the Clearwater/Saint Petersburg/Tampa area?

Surfergrl311...  it's across from the Target Plaza, on the other side of Sand Lake.  They're in the same plaza as the Old Time Pottery.  Their sign simply says "BEAD" and it's a little store but they are soooooo sweet and they have a ton of great stuff.  I didn't think they were too badly priced, but I'm new to beading, so I'm not really sure.  They were really helpful.  I basically went in and was like "Yeah, I don't know how to bead." and they hooked me up.  They're well staffed and no one got ignored.  They looked like they had some really cool classes going on too.  Let me know if you still can't find it!
