For my husband's 26th birthday I wanted to do something special (and very age appropriate) for him.  So I was inspired by that lovable clay-mation sheep--Shaun (of Wallace and Gromit fame).

Here they are:

And here's how I made them:
To start I made the heads, legs, and pupils with melted chocolate.  I melted some chocolate (and I think a bit of butter) and spooned it onto wax paper in the shapes I wanted.  I drew the heads onto the foil before I started with a butter knife.  I just winged the rest (you can see how well that turned out by looking at the eyes...  Grin).

The chocolate bits hardened in the fridge over night.

In the morning I made waffles (by a mix), and then I fried some bananas in butter and maple syrup and placed them on top of the waffles.

Next I covered them in whipped cream, added the chocolate appendages, and quick took pictures as the chocolate was melting.
(the pupils are so big, because it was next to impossible to assemble the little pupils without them melting)

I think these were the tastyest sheep ever (although it was hard to eat something this cute  Wink)

I'm sure you could do turkeys, maybe with coloured chocolate to make tail feathers, or gummy candies in the appropriate colours.

Thanks guys.  They were a great birthday treat.  My mom liked the pictures so much she's going out to buy a waffle maker so we can have them with her over Christmas... I think I've started something...

I think you should.  I am a vegetarian, and my sister's first reaction to these was "How can a vegetarian eat lamb?"  And if she doesn't want to partake, there's simply more waffly goodness for you to enjoy  Cheesy

I made sheep pancakes with my five year old this morning.

She was way way too excited to allow for picture taking before the eating started!

Thanks for the idea

This rocks!  This would also be a great breakfast treat for kids. I think I will have to make some of these for my son (although he is now 15, he is still a kid to me and huge Wallace and Grommit fan) as a surprise breakfast over Christmas break.

Thanks for sharing your idea, attack and creativity with us!

I'm sure you could make other animals.  Maybe a bit of colouring in the whipped cream, or coloured chocolate for the appendages.  Or maybe just lots more chocolate (we were dreaming up dairy cows, and black sheep here the other day, we haven't made them yet though).
