Beach Day! top and hula skirt

It was beach day at my school a week ago. I needed a shirt, so I made one from this vintage fabric I bought for 50 cents at a rummage sale, and some lace and ribbon for trimmings:

 


Then my friend came up with the idea of making garbage  bag hula skirts in protest of all the girls who inevitably use beach day as an excuse to dress skanky (skankily?):



That's my sweetie Harper in the corner. awwww. I wove the ribbon through the holes in the lace and left some extra to make a bow at the side.

I like the trash bag skirt idea I would have never though of that!  Can you wear spigetti strap shirts to school? We have a pretty relaxed dress code, but even if its a day we dress up for something, we still can't have like less than 2 inches for a strap.  But I've seen people at my school with barley anything on as long as they have nice teachers who don't care.

Wow. I've heard about stuff like that .. but in my city (Edmonton) as far as I know there are no really strict dress codes, unless the school chooses to have uniforms, but that's different i guess.  No ... at my school girls can and do dress provocatively all the time. Personally, I think if they want to do that, then that's their choice.  It makes the rest of us look much better by comparison. 

Maybe it's a Canadian thing to have relaxed dress codes?  I dunno.

yeah i live in hawaii, and we have like no dress code. lol you can wear camisoles and halter tops and jazz like that... so lots of skanky-ness at my school too! (sry to offend anyone if from hawaii, this is a personal opinion, and not a generalization. not everyone is a slut.)

i looove your shirt....hehe stupid sluts...our entire dress code says "dress in a way that won't distract from learning" or something to that effect  but my middle school had the two inch strap thing but the girls dressed even sluttier there...go figure

that skirt is so creative and cool! if we had a beach day here, i'd probably end up wearing a coconut bra over a t-shirt and a big floppy hat, lol, garbage bag hula skirts are a much better idea!
