I have never really liked Mr. Saturn. After all, he is quite a useless item in Smash Brothers.
But recently, I've gotten addicted to the Mother series. I'm playing Mother 3 now and am stuck halfway through it. My desire to play it but inability to proceed left me so frustrated... so I made this!

He's not too big...

And until I can figure out some way to glue the pipe cleaner whiskers in place, I can't sew him shut. He's not quite as fat as he should be in this picture, because he's not fully stuffed yet. (Also, I love his little feet!)

Remember kids: When Mr. Saturn offers you a coffee, JUST SAY NO.  Cheesy

Free pattern, woo!

Materials:
Hook read gauge note!
Caron Wintuk Yarn Fisherman color (or any worsted weight cream yarn)
Two 9 mm snap-on safety eyes
Black pipe cleaner (or white colored black with a sharpie, like I did  Wink)
Small amount of black and red felt / needle and thread
Stuffing

Gauge:
Not important. I used an H hook, but I crochet super tight, so Id suggest a G or probably F hook. It doesnt matter how big he turns out, but 9 mm eyes could be too small if you make him big!

Onwaaaards!

Feet: (make 2)
   -ch 7 with cream
Rnd 1) sc in 2nd from hook and across but sc 3 in last st. Going across other side of starting ch, sc 5 and sc 3 in last st (16)
2) sc 5, sc 2 in each of next 3 sts, sc 5, sc 2 in next 3 sts (22)
3) sc 5, sc dec three times, sc 7, sc dec, sc 2 (18)
4) sc 4, sc dec three times, sc rest of the way around (15)
5) sc 2, sc dec three times, sc rest of the way around (12)
   -end off

Body: (make 1)
-ch 2 with cream or make magic ring, however you like
1) sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook or in ring do not join, do not turn! Spiral time!
2) sc 2 in each (12)
3) (sc 2 in next, sc) around (18)
4) (sc 2 in next, sc in next 2) around (24)
5-7) sc around (three times total)
8 ) (sc dec, sc 2) around (18)
9) (sc dec, sc) around (12)
10) (sc 2 in next, sc) around (18)
11) (sc 2 in next, sc in next 2) around (24)
12) (sc 2 in next, sc in next 3) around (30)
13) (sc 2 in next, sc) six times, sc rest of the way around (36)
14) (sc 2 in next, sc 2) six times, sc rest of the way around (42)
15) (sc 2 in next, sc 3) six times, sc rest of the way around (48)
16-17) sc around (two times total)
18) sc 31, sc though BOTH 6 sts of the front half of the foot AND the next 6 sts of the body. *See picture*  Sc 2 (in just body), and then another 6 through the other leg AND body, then sc in last 3.

19) sc 31, sc in the BACK 6 sts of the foot (ignore the 6 through both body and front of foot), sc 2 (the space between feet), sc 6 through back of second foot, sc in last 3.
20-21) sc around (two times total)
22) (sc dec, sc 6) around (42)
23) (sc dec, sc 5) around (36)
24) (sc dec, sc 4) around (30)
25) (sc dec, sc 3) around (24)
26) (sc dec, sc 2) around (18)
27) (sc dec, sc) around (12)
28) sc dec around (6)
-end off, leaving long tail. Snap on eyes, sew on eyebrows, put in whiskers/hair, stuff, and cinch shut.

To make bow:
Cut out bow shape. Fold in half and make small cut in center. *see dotted line (which looks like a solid black line Tongue) on photo* Pull bow on hair and maybe glue in place?

...I do believe that's my shortest pattern yet!  Lips sealed

very cute! have you tried wrapping the ends of the pipe cleaners around a stitch on the face? or maybe, stick a foam ball in the middle/front of him, poke the pipe cleaners through, and stick them into the ball? that might keep the whiskers in place  Smiley

Hmm... I like the styrofoam idea, but I think the whiskers would come loose after a while... and maybe tying them would work... but would keep them on, not really hold them out at an angle...
Well! I've got a glue gun somewhere in this house... I'll see what I can do.

I think I might buy a cute coffeemug and stuff this guy inside for a Christmas gift... haha, and the card will say "Happy Saturnalia!" in that crazy font. Does that sound like a good idea?
