When we purchased our house over a year ago, the very first project we tackled was the kitchen makeover.  We took down the wallpaper, textured the walls, painted the cabinets, and added cabinet hardware and updated a few appliances.  Not including the appliances and light fixtures (which came much later), we spent under $100.  The hardware was on sale and paint and texture is not that expensive, but the impact is dramatic.  We are proud that our kitchen does not look like any others in the neighborhood anymore.

The one "before" picture I could find; typical builder-grade cabinets with busy wallpaper.

"After" that almost matches the above angle.

Another angle

My little breakfast area with the neat counter-height table.

Excuse the mess on the counter, but I really like this angle with the aquarium and the wine and pilsner glasses.

Okay so once again I am completely redoing my pictures. Got tired of photobucket, the only reason I used it was for here so I decided I will just use Craftster's photo uploader. So while I am switching over my photo links will be broken. Message me if there is a post you would like the pics for.

It's amazing what a little paint can do. Those cheap builder cabinets look more expensive and your kitchen has an updated look. Nice job.

What a transformation! It looks so sleek and modern. It looks like you spent a fortune. I love the way the cabinets turned out. Great job.

WOW! I'm so jealous! We're buying our first home and it has really crappy cabinets (your "before" cabinets were nicer than ours are) too. I hope we can do something like that with ours! Really great job, your hard work was worth it!
