so i'm really excited because i've been wanting to make luggage for a long time and haven't had the chance to.  so i made some last week and thought i'd share it.  the first is a carry on bag, the second is my rolling luggage (need to add the wheels but i know how they'll go on there!  just need to get the bits from home depot.  and the strap detaches in case i need to check it in on the plane).  what do you think?

What a clever idea to make the strap detachable! Airlines do love to mess us around, don't they - it's hard to predict what will be allowed on board and what has to be checked in.

The fabric that you used is lovely too. If you do check it in, you won't have any trouble finding it on the carousel afterwards Smiley

This is great! as a frequent flyer, constantly jet lagged traveller I admire your patience to take time out to make luggage! i've contemplated it trying to make my own, but we sell luggage where I work and I constantly fall in love with it and sometimes bring it home with me Smiley.
I hope you never have to check this stuff, I hate when airlines mess up my stuff!

I love the fabric!!! Where did you find it?
Your luggage looks great Cheesy
I'm considering attempting at least a carry-on... then I need to find an excuse to travel!

i got the fabric at ikea.  they had been sold out for FOREVER, but i got  ahold of a few yards as soon as they got a new shipment in.  i went back the other day and they were sold out again, so good luck getting your hands on some!  but it's beautiful, i love it! Smiley

This is really great! I love that Ikea fabric too. I've started making luggage like weekender bags, but the problem is they get so heavy to carry around. I've been dying to make rolling luggage but never knew how to go about it without buying a cheap one and taking it apart for the pieces. Would you mind sharing what supplies you used?
