Hi Everyone!
So I came up with an idea the other night and made my creation last night. I don't know if anyone else has done this or not..but I thought of it on my own Smiley I have been browsing tutorials and trying to find cute boy outfits to make for my 19 month old son. There are soooo many adorable ideas and dresses for little girls but the boys ideas seem to be very limited.. so I saw the tutorial to make dresses from mens dress shirts and came up with and idea to make it into a one piece outfit with long pants and short sleeves for my son. I like to layer clothes and this way he can wear it in the winter with a long sleeve shirt underneath and in the summer just the way it is Smiley I didn't use a pattern, I just layed a one piece outfit on top of the shirt, matched up the shoulders and cut around it adding about 1/2" to it for seams. I still have to hem the pant legs but wanted to try it on him first to check the length and such.. but here it is so far Smiley Please tell me what you think! Oh.. and Please excuse the wet drool marks.. he's teething! The shirt isn't stained.. just drooled on! Comments are appreciated Smiley

looks great! I'm curious as to the construction, do the buttons just go to the waist? how did you d the legs, do they have spas or are they sewn?

I'm so glad everyone likes this idea so far! As far as the crotch and leg seams go I did just sew them shut. Picture a mens dress shirt with the buttons going right down the middle...the buttons on this outfit go all the way to the crotch. I was thinking about adding snaps or button in the leg area for easier diaper changing access, but decided against it because I wasn't sure if this idea would even work, this was my first try! Also now that he is 19 months old, I don't have to change him every 30 mins anymore! I was thinking of adding buttons by the shoulders to be able to take it on an off that way...but the buttons in the front were already there and really it's not that big of a pain to take on and off.. just unbutton the top few and it comes right off his shoulders and down easily Smiley I got this shirt for $1 at the thrift store it's a mens Medium size. I also bought another that is a mens XL brand new with tags still on it! I am thinking I might have to take in the neck/collar on that one so it's not too big...thinking maybe of just cutting the back piece in half and taking it in a bit so there would be a seam going down the back...or maybe just making the collar smaller.. anyone have any ideas???

I was wondering how the collar would turnout. It looks great, and the sizing doesn't look off at all. I love the colors of the shirt you chose.

What a great idea! I think that's a nice shape on little people - tops & bottoms can end up a bit chunky together. As an alternative, would you be able to make a little shirt and dungarees out of one man's shirt? You could mix & match if you used two contrasting shirts.

So cute!  What a great idea.  I've seen a boy's romper out of a t-shirt on here, but I don't think we've seen one quite like this.  Good work!

I love this idea, I have a 9 month old son and would love to try this for him.  Its true, its hard to come up with stuff for boys and there is tons of stuff for girls.  You did a great job...so good I decided to register for an account so I could leave you this message instead of just stalking the site!

What a great idea!  I'll have to hope that it is a nephew that will be arriving in the spring so I will have an excuse to make this.

I love this idea!! You are so smart!!.
I have alot of shirts at home that my family has gave me after seeing the first dress I made.
So now I think I need to make this, cause a little girl can only have so many dresses.

I love this idea.  I have an 11 year old boy and it's been frustrating trying to find cute ideas for him as he grew up.  I have a 7 week old boy as well now and I'm hoping to have better luck making him some clothes.  I'm definitely gonna have to give this a try with some of my thrift store finds.

I would think that you'd have to do a little shaping in the seat/crotch area to accommodate lively little boy movement, or the crotch will tear...maybe as you trim the back neck seam down, you could leave the extra inches in the seat in?

And with the extra inches you could put in snaps at the crotch, too.

Haha! I know what you mean! My little guy was 10lbs 6 1/2 oz. and 22 1/2 " Long and they took him a week early! The doctor looked at me and said.. "Honey...he's just not going to fit!" He was in a size 1 diaper by the time we got to the recovery room! When my son was 8 months old he was already wearing some 18 month old clothes! I gave birth to a toddler. ANyways... thanks so much everyone for the nice comments! Oh.. and as far as there not being enough room for the bottom area.. it seems to be pretty comfy and roomy. I didn't add snaps to the crotch area since it already has buttons all the way down the front and it's easy to get on and off.  My son is very very active and believes diving head first over the back of the couch is great fun. This outfit doesn't seem to restrict him...darn it..! haha.
