hey friends!  here are some pillowcases and a nifty makeup bag that i made for a gift exchange and sent to a friend in north carolina.

they're all jenny hart's sublime stitching patterns, of course Smiley  i'm really happy with the results.

(my friend's name is christina, so i shortened it to 'stina for the bag Smiley)

the makeup bag was a little tricky b/c it was too small for a hoop--i had to wing it a little and get used to stitching sans hoop, but i had a heads up b/c i had read about the bags that a few other members had done and that they couldn't use hoops either.  it wasn't as hard as i expected, really.

i'm a big newb here, so let me know what you guys think and thank you so much for looking!  Smiley

They look awesome! Did you use satin stitching on the rainbow? I've been playing with the unicorn patterns, too. Also, was the makeup bag hard to stitch on? So many questions, so little time. Newbs unite.

oh yay, you're a newb too!

for the rainbow, i did a double row of stem stitch?--i guess that's what it is--my mom taught me how to do this when i was about 6, but of course all i could do was a running whipstitch-ish kind of thing at that young age.  when i got a little older, she showed me this stitch, and i'm pretty sure the super technical term is a stem stitch.  Smiley

i'm so glad everyone likes my stuff!  i was a little worried, what with being the new kid and all Smiley  thanks so much for your compliments guys!

Both turned out really great. And "Stina" is a cute nickname!

thank you!  Smiley

also, i see that i forgot to answer this:

not really, but i had to do everything in back stitch because i didn't have the hoop to rely on to keep the fabric stretched out and sturdy.  the makeup bag was only $1.99 at hobby lobby, so i figured that if i messed up on it, it wasn't that big of a loss since it was so cheap.  also, it might be easier to do if you have bigger hands to hold the fabric taut--i have very tiny little kid hands (and i'm almost 30, wtf) so that made it a little tricky, too.
