yeah, so i happened to have a pair of golden genie/hammer pants that i bought at savers and once used as a matador costume.  and they're a dress now!!!  it's all finished except i need to hem the top (it's pinned in the pic.)  I keep trying but the fabric is so stretchy and it either bunches up or gets all lettucy on me.  Any tips/good stitches to use?  Should i just hand-sew it?  i tried zigzag and a loose straight stitch.  this is my first piece of clothing, so i don't really know what i'm doing...  anyway, here are the pics:

it's got a bubble skirt Wink and the straps are made from a sleeve of the matching sequinned jacket

and when i twist the inside of the bubble skirt, it looks sorta cool/drapey:

i wish i had taken a before pic, but the pants looked like this, with the crotch at my knees (they were HUGE, but the tag said women small...)

if anyone has some genie pants and wants a little tutorial, i'd be happy to make one, it was really simple... like, sew 2 lines simple.

P.S.  IT'S SNOWING!!! YAAAAY! Grin

I absolutely LOVE anything silver/sparkly, and this dress is really great!  New year's is coming up kind of soon, but I would totally wear that whenever I felt like it!

To hem the top, try: zig-zag stitch the edge of the fabric, then fold the material over, pin it, and hem with a straight stitch about 1-2 cm in.  I'm not an expert at sewing clothing either, but this always works for me  Smiley

thanks for the nice comments, everyone Smiley  littlepinksock- thanks for the tip!  i've already handsewn the top (after ripping out some realllllly bad zigzag stitching) but i'll try your method next time i sew stretchy material.

Lovely dress! A tip for sewing stretchy material that I learned while sewing some is to adjust the tension of your sewing machine to a looser setting. I set mine to a 4 when I normally sew with between a 2 and a 3. That may help. Happy sewing.
