so, i've started this hat and am loving the spiral effect. these are the instructions for it:
* K6, SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1, yo, rep from *

well, now i'm at the part where i need to shape the top.

it says:
* K to 2 sts before the SSK of the rnd below, SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1,  rep from * until there are no sts remaining between the (SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1) sections.

is that like the first instructions, only i K4 instead of K6? i'm not exactly sure how to spot the SSK of the rnd below, so am i right to assume that i should do a K4?

please help!
if there's a way to spot a SSK of the rnd below, show meeee! Cheesy

You can, once you learn to 'read' your knitting - but that takes awhile. What I do, because I prefer to knit rather mindlessly, is to put markers where the SSK is - moving it each time. Then when you need to knit 2 st before the SSK, just 2 stitches before the marker.

The yarn you are using, of course, may also make it difficult to see where the SSK was below, but generally look for where three stitches become one.
