So this year for Halloween I decided to be the "Green Fairy" that people supposedly used to hallucinate when they'd drink Absinthe in 19th century Paris. She makes an appearance in the movie Moulin Rouge as Kylie Minogue, but she was definitely a historical figure. I believe she played a pretty significant role in the flourishing artistic culture that was going on there at the time. Playwrights, painters, poets, and musicians would drink absinthe, see the green fairy, and be inspired to CREATE!

I took apart a burlesque style short petticoat for the lacy lower skirt. the white shirt is one that i made a few months ago. i used the elastic waistband from the petticoat and sewed on a bunch of green tulle. i took a previously white satin bow-tie and colored it green with a sharpie. i already had the vest and leggings, and i bought the hat, wings and glove-y things. i added green touches to the wings. so yeah! i had a great time as a hallucinogenic alcoholic drink! Cheesy

Cute costume! The hat is a nice touch.

I like the skirt. what is the tulle attached to?

I was at an over the top insane Halloween party last week and I actually got to try absinthe. I went for the original green...strong stuff.....

Nice costume! looks very well made Smiley

Absinthe is strong, but yummie! Love the liquorish taste and the burning of it as it goes down n_n

the tulle is attached to a piece of elastic that was around my torso under my boobs.

i've never had absinthe but one guy i met on halloween night said "hey you got me really f***** up in austria one night!" i was like "sorry!"
