Due to time and $$ constraints, I'd only be able to donate sewn hats.  But from what I've heard (and read here), sewn hats are much more comfortable on hairless heads than knit.  I think this is a wonderful idea, and I'd be happy to try and pull in some crafters who aren't craftsters to send in a few items as well.

Please keep us updated on when/where/how to send what we make.
Thanks for thinking of this!

Just to jump in here- and i dont mean to offend anyone at ALL- but i have very long hair, and people have told me time and time again i should hack it off and send it to locks of love. Aside from the fact that i would be in absolutle HORROR to cut my hair.... I have heard quite a few suspicious things about the Locks of Love organization. They get LOTS of hair donated to them.... and dont really turn out many wigs, considering what they take in. I realize it takes money and time to create these wigs, but there is definitly stockpiles of leftover hair that people have parted with out of the goodness of their heart.... and where does it go?

It doesnt seem like they reveal very much information about their organization, or rather, dont reveal enough to convince me. If i thought it was a good cause, they could probably use the money more than anything. Also ive heard people say that the organization tends to be.... picky? shall we say? About who they give out their wigs to...

Ive unfortunatly had allot of friends and co-workers and family friends that have had cancer- and really if you want to give a gift of hair, the best thing to do is to take things into your own hands.

I think these hats are a great idea, and very cute.  I cant wait to see what saussy ideas people come up with Smiley

Once again, i didnt want that to come off wrong- i just feel nervous about people doing something out of the goodness of their hearts, and possibly being taken advantage of. So just a word of warning is all!

Yes, I've heard bad reviews of them, too. They apparently have a bad reputation with the Better Business Bureau for not being forthcoming about their operations.

Even if it's perfectly legit, I'd prefer to donate money to cancer research. *my two cents* And now that I'm embracing my crafty nature  Grin I hope I can make cool things to donate to cancer charities.

2. Some fungi are not edible more than once.

Exactly. If you wanna be a part of the solution- i think its a much better investment of your time and money to help out in direct ways- like donating money to cancer reaserch, and making hats and other crafty things to either help people... or just make them happier Smiley
