I decided to be a knight somewhat randomly this year.  I believe I was inspired by some knit chain mail I'd seen here and there on the internet.  I wanted it to be girly, but not like a "sexy knight" costume you'd find on a costume web site.  It turned out just like I envisioned.

I bought the shiny material at Joann's for half off ($12) and the spray paint for my boots at a hardware store ($8).  The chain mail cowl is knit with grey acrylic I had lying around held together with shiny silver embroidery thread ($6).  It looked great in the sunlight, but I don't think the shiny really came through indoors.  Almost everything else was stuff I had lying around.  The blue tunic is made from material from last year's Alice in Wonderland costume.  The zipper I had wasn't really long enough so it's challenging to take on and off.  My boyfriend got really excited to make my sword.  It's made of a dowel (less than a dollar), cardboard and duct tape with bicycle grip tape for the handle.  It's incredibly sturdy and good for hitting things.

The shiny pant were made from a tutorial I found here (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=251506.0) on Craftster.  They're pretty comfy and I may just start wearing them around.  I don't have a great photo of them, but they're leggings made of the shiny material.

Last but not least, the boots.  I had planned to make boot covers, but I couldn't get them to look right, so I decided to spray paint my old Docs.  They look great, but the paint is still a little tacky and I'm not sure it will every really dry correctly.  I suspect that won't stop me though.  I love them silver!

I loved being so shiny all day.  Most people got it right away, but I did get a couple people guessing spacegirl.  A couple mods and next year I could be Major Tom.  We'll see!

Looks great! My son keeps begging me to make one of the knit cowls. Guess I'll have to try!
The sword looks wonderful!

Power is strength and the ability to see yourself through your own eyes and not through the eyes of another. It is being able to place a circle of power at your own feet and not take power from someone else's circle.

Love it! You definitely look feminine and cute without being naked.

I hate it when girls wear lingerie and ears and think its a costume.

You look great!!

Btw, how was that shiny fabric?  I saw it at Joann and it made me drool but I didn't know if it would be difficult to work with (well, for me, a non-talented clothing sewer...) or how it would feel to wear.

I was actually surprised by how comfortable it was to wear.  I was worried that it would be too warm, but that didn't turn out to be a problem.  As for the construction, it was sometimes hard to pin, but the machine had no such problems.

I love it.  I made my daughter be a knight last year, but not a shiny one.  Hmmmm...
