i believe they're called banana spiders.

actually I believe it is a orb spider

the one in the dining room  body was about  1 1/2  inch long  maybe.  yes tehy are scary  but very cool.  thanks for the link to it.

my dad studies spiders for a living so i called to ask him lol...he said they can be called yellow orbs or golden orbs and they aren't posionious and he said he had one crawl up his pant leg while mowing before and it never bit him lol Smiley

I see those all the time!!! I love their webs and the zigzag pattern. If you get really close to the web they move in a way that makes the whole web go back and fourth, and the egg sacks are HUGE!!! About the size of a quarter! I love them...but I wouldn't wanna pick one up or have it crawl in my pants Shocked

yes - we get those orb spiders this time of year - they are huge - one fall I was cleaning up my yard and I scooped up an armful of leaves and thought I had a baby mouse in my hand (something small and kind of fuzzy.....)  well, you can guess it was a gigantic spider and I almost had a heart attack.  Shocked  They are pretty cool though - and their webs are amazing!

holy crap.

you guys are brave.

I'm TERRIFIED of spiders. I feel like my skin is crawling now, lol. I can't even look at itty bitty daddy long-legs without freaking out.

The pics are really awesome though.. and the spider itself is pretty interesting looking.
