The costume shop I work at was in a local parade this summer.    After making 14 mermaid costumes for the shop I decided I needed one for myself.  Being incredibly cheap I could not bring myself to by any fabric that I liked at the fabric stores (EXPENSIVE!!).  I almost gave up until I happened across this amazing shimmery blue/green shower curtain at goodwill.  Voila! Shower curtain mermaid.

The blue of the shell bra and tail is the shower curtain.  I made the top using scraps of shimmery gold and nude stretch that were in my scrap bag.  The pattern is Simplicity 4043.  It would have been a very simple project but I decided to piece it together and give it some fun shapes and decoration so that took me forever.  I made shells and flowers (sea flowers?) and some fingerless gloves to add to the costume.  I also spent a good couple of hours attaching sequins and rhinestones with E6000.  My boyfriend thought I was crazy but it turned out awesome.  Too bad I was the only one that showed up in costume at the Halloween party.  boo.

very cool!  the pictures make you look like you have no legs, just fins and my 5 year old is standing here with the most confused expression on her face-lol!!!!
