Hi everyone, I'm new to Craftster and the world of cupcakes/cakes...I've been baking for a long time but recently got into cake decorating. Everything is a cake mix, with Wilton's recipe for buttercream icing. Here are some pictures of my newest attempts, let me know what you think!

My very first attempt at decorating cupcakes

First attempt at a gum paste calla lily (it dried faster than I thought and so the edges cracked)

First attempt at a cake (I know it is very loud, in terms of color, ha ha)

Second round of cupcakes. I think these ones are much better!

Any tips/suggestions?

You're getting there.  This is a far better job than I have ever done.

Keep practicing, and keep talking on craftster.  We love to see your work.

You used a great variety of colors and tips, a great step in the right direction.  I am terrible with frosting so I tend to decorate with chocolate curls, lemon bark, coconut flakes, chocolate covered coffee beans, nuts and other stuff.  I would highly recommend the cookbook "Crazy About Cupcakes."  Half of the book is cake recipes and frosting recipes.   The other half is theme centered decorating ideas.  I love making cupcakes because if you don't like what you made you can eat it to destroy the evidence.  But if you love what you make you get to take pictures first!  They look great, keep up the good work!
