I wonder what I'll make today...

I made the shawl to help keep me warm. I lined it with the back of the red velvet dress I used to make the corset, and then painted the white lacy doily thing.

I pretty much handmade the whole costume, save for the belt and necklaces. I even took a regular black wig and dread each of the locks

Here's the group of us Pirates of the Carribbean:

Progress shots:

I started with  my petticoat:

One quick trip to Value Village later, I started with a lovely, $3.99 ruffled bed skirt with a kind of odd pinkish hue.

I sewed a nice, big, layered tiered skirt and went on to tea stain it. But, 4 tea bags and scalding hot bath water just wasn't doing the trick.  So I added some ingredients from the kitchen.

Hey this looks better,

But after I wrung it out and hung it to dry, my rather sickly sweet, salty petticoat still wasn't dirty looking enough. So it was on to plan B. We took it out to the pond, and then dragged it along the gravel path. It still needed more ick, so into the flower bed for some good old stompin.

Ahh, that's better... Don't worry I rinsed it out a bit before wearing it!

This is the overlayer, a $2.00 Value village saree special:

Next came the corset. I bought a lovely red velvet dress for $3.00. I found an underbust corset tutorial to follow..

Here's my son helping me paint the fish netting:

Ooh look it laces up and everything!

It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait until next year!

That is so cool! I saw the title and had to click.

Can't wait to see your tutorial on the corset, because thats one wicked one! You did a great job on your costume and what a fun group shot there.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

I'm bringing sexy back, I think I dropped it somewhere between the donut shop and the Cheesecake Factory.
