I love the color scheme.  My husband has this shirt, too.  Did you leave the Piranha Plant off on purpose?  I always thought that was the point of the joke.

hmmm..yes, I didnt do it on purpose. is that the point of the joke? I'm not going any deeper than using a mario pipe instead of a normal pipe...is there another level to the humor in this im missing?

thanks! I spent about an hour picking cat hairs out of the stitches!!

I thought that it was a play on whether the pipe was one mario could decend, or the ones with the pirahna plant that would get you!  The game timing always had it so that if you weren't paying attention and going quickly, you could be jumping for a pipe just as the PP was coming out, and then you died!  So the shirt has a couple layers of funny - the play on the Magritte thing, as well as a play on the "safe pipe/PP pipe" thing.

That just delves into it way more than necessary and is in no way a criticism!  I totally love your stitching and I think the Magritte reference is enough to make it way cool.

This is all very deep and philosophical.  Your brilliant embroidery reminds me that I still have to beat that last castle in the Mario game I got for my DS a couple months ago...
