I finally finished my daughter's costume - this year she decided on a "bad fairy" costume.  For the skirt I used two shades of tulle (green and purple), for the bodice a faux snakeskin suedecloth, satin and tulle.  The bloomers are made from satin and the wings a burnout lurex so they have a 'rotted' appearance (which is difficult to see in the photo).  



I also made a set of horns to match her costume since all we could find were red ones:



Since I had to make these myself I created a tutorial (which would also work for ears) so that no matter what you plan on wearing, you always have a set of horns to match your costume!  Here's the link:

Great costume! how did you make the wings? My daughter wants to be a vampire dog this year, and thought she needed bat wings..

After cutting out the wing shape, I interfaced both sides of the wings with 2 layers of fusible woven interfacing.  If I had to do it again, I would use something like a layer of Peltex instead.  They were sewn right sides together, but it gives it a very unfinished look so if you're wanting a more polished look, make sure you give yourself a seam allowance.  After sewing the wing sections together, sew channels so that you can insert some 16 gauge wire through.  In this case the channeling goes over the top of the wings and throughout the wing so that the points of the wings are supported.  It also gives it a cool bat like appearance.
