You could always just cut down the back of the t-shirts and find some other fabric, lace, ribbon or something to put in the gap which can be as big as you want it. Dunno if that would work. For the sewing bit, just go for it and don't be afraid to make a mistake. I got a little thread unpicker thing which is my best friend  Grin. Though I would recommend starting with a practice t-shirt, one that you don't mind if it goes wrong just to get the hang of it.

If all else fails just sew up the bottom, cut off the arms and sew up the holes, add some straps and you got yourself a bag.  Cheesy

Here's a link to a great new book I just got: http://www.alabamachanin.com/?q=books/8. It uses hand sewing, but it's nothing too complicated. Everything in the book is made from recycled T's. I think the skirt on the cover is particularly beautiful and can't wait to make one of my own!!!

This probably won't help because I can't show you, but I have a book called Save This Shirt. And it has like haeps of awesome ideas of what to do with old shirts. theres other shirts you can make them into. bags. skirts. ipod covers! heaps. haha.
