I like the look of wooden letters on the wall, and I want to do something like that.  I'm not sure what I want to spell out yet (maybe something like "e komo mai"), but I do know I want to make the letters myself.

I'm not very good at woodworking and don't have a jigsaw (or pretty much any other saw that would work).  Any suggestions on what to make the letters out of that could be cut with an Xacto knife or box cutter or steak knife or something?  Or something cheap and easy to sculpt (please, not fimo or related!)

I've cut thin balsawood with scissors before. For more detailed stuff I imagine an X-Acto would work okay too.

I usually find it in the "wood" section of the craftstore, next to the dowels and unfinished boxes... that sort of thing. Super cheap and very light so it would be easy to hang them as well.

You could use foam core board. I want to say it's about $3 for a 2' x 3' piece about 1/4" thick. It's usually with the poster-board in the craft store.

Looking to do a personal swap for any boyish nursery print flannels! I can send polymer clay charms, purses, paper crafts, microscope slide pendant kit, and a lot more.
