Tell me about it...what we did is that we didn't thin out the inside of the pumpkin very much. It made carving it more difficult, but it makes the tiny pieces hold better.  plus, I took a tiny paintbrush and coated all the edges w/ vaseline so that they wouldn't dry and shrivel up.  It's holding up great- we have had it in our window for three days!
