Brigadeiros - traditional brazilian sweets

No party without them - they are called "Brigadeiros" (bree-gah-day-rose) in Brazil, and are the must at any party, from kids birthdays to weddings. I made this tutorial for a friend - thought I could share.

Brigadeiros
1 can sweetend condensed milk
1 tablespoon butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
Chocolate sprinkles
Paper cups

Mix the condensed milk, the butter, and the cocoa in a deep Pyrex bowl. Don't bother about the butter, just make sure the chocolate is thoroughly mixed with the condensed milk, and the bowl is really deep.






Microwave on high for 6 minutes. Don't worry, it bubbles so much, you'll think it's going to run over. That's why the bowl needs to be deep.











When it's done, carefully (it's terribly hot) take it out of the microwave and stirr until it's creamy and shiny. Less than 1 minute. Let it cool, and give yourself a treat before moving on.









Once the dough cooled down enough to roll, cream your hands with butter and roll balls about the size of a truffle. Roll the balls in chocolate sprinkles and put them in tiny paper cups.

Oh my god I love brigadeiros!  Yummmmmmmm....best sweet ever, in my opinion.  One of my Brazilian students made some for a potluck and I couldn't tear myself away.  *droooool*  Thank you for posting this.  Oh my yes...yumyumyumyumy um

Oh goodness!

A couple of my Brazilian friends made Brigadeiros one time- except they didn't roll it into balls, they just ate it from the bowl. I'll have to try making it like this.

Yay, this is fun!! (as you see, I'm a newbie).
What people are doing now is serving brigadeiros a little less done ( I would say 4 1/2 or 5 minutes in the microwave) in transparent plastic cups. They look very fancy. Look at the picture I found in a magazine this month:

ohhh I just made the chocolate part (cooling now) and oh.....holy mother of all things.....that's goooooooood!   I don't have the chocolate sprinkles so I thought I would mash up some chocolate chips...didn't work so well...so I think I might try nuts....
