All I used was the white stitching to attach it.  I wanted it to be as soft and flexible as possible since it would be worn by a baby.

As for a pattern, I don't really have one.  I just kind of did the bird as I went along. If you'd like to trace it or what have you, feel free!  I don't mind one bit!
