I just got a brand new sewing machine and I knew I wanted to make an easy fanny pack creation for a friend as my first project. I found this great tutorial here by Rocknroar http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=31379.0
(It was really easy to follow and the design was perfect, especially the nifty carabeeners as hooks)
I realized halfway through the project that my fabric combo looks pretty... unhip 3rd grader from the early 90's maybe? I picked it because I knew she'd like the rainbow fabric itself but yeah, I'm not too thrilled with the outcome. I might just add patches with embroidery to the pack so that it's not so blindingly colorful.

In the past I've just sewn by hand and while I've used sewing machines every now and then, I'm still not used to it. So please forgive the uneven stitches and such. I'm going to keep using the machine for easy patterns (purses, simple skirts, etc) so if anyone has any good tutorial suggestions, let me know  Smiley
In the meantime, I'll be taking advantage of all the decorative stitches to start sewing up some X-mas cards, whee!

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone! I didn't think that many people would like the fabric combos, maybe I'll leave it as is. I think I'm just being paranoid about it because I normally don't use so many bright colors in one design. But really, thank you all for the input, I'm feeling much, much better about giving it to her now  Wink

If any of you are interested in buying some, I got the rainbow fabric in the (very modest) $1 fat quarter section at Michael's. They literally only got 2 squares in their shipment, I know this because my bff works there, so run out and grab it at your store before they run out. I'm sure they have it at Joanne's too though since they carry a ton of squares.
