Oooo...I like that Mullerslane Smiley

This is some wool I got from Sheep Shed Studio, mill end roving. I dyed it with acid dyes, but the colors spun up a little muddier than I wanted. It was spun on my homemade drop spindle with the aid of power tools lol I stuck the end of my spindle into my husband's drill, leaned the drill up against a boot on the floor and used my foot to push the 'trigger' on the drill. Hooray for variable speed drills!
The colors do remind me of fall..reds, oranges, browns, a little green and yellow...

I got this merino/silk roving in trade with Nicolassa. I spun it up super thick/super thin. It was kind of a mind trip to spin that thick- my brain kept saying "draft! DRAFT!" I plied it with a white cotton thread with beads on it. Some of the thicker spots are more corespun than plied. I'm really happy with how it came out. I haven't set the twist yet- I'm going to felt it a little so it's going to loose some yardage (I haven't counted yardage yet.)
It wants to be woven into a scarf.

Happy Friday Everyone!!

I have a few to share today..

I tailspun these lincoln locks.. so fun!!  I just love the curlies
Holiday- 46 yards

I really love this set.. It's from 2 monthly artclub batts..  I'm calling it "the shades of being a girl"  because we all have our "soft" side -which we are most of the time, which is why it's the larger skien, and then we have our "rocker" side.. that pokes it's head out once and awhile.. so the skien is a bit smaller..  It's 93 yards total for the set..  the soft side is spun with white irridecent sequins, pink icicle and firestar and plied with irridecent green thread and sparkley white pom poms, the rocker side is spun with fuscia and onyx angelinas and pink sequins- plied with fusica holosparkle lurex thread and 4 colors of pink sparkley pom poms

Snow Covered Mistletoe, 49 yards- spun from one of my Snow covered mistletoe, art yarn kits..  merino/tencel, bamboo, merino, sequins, sparkley pom poms, ribbon, rick rack, all candystriped with gold metallic thread

Autumn Camping, 76 yards
merino, sparkle, ecospun--- striping.. with the brown/blue, then the autumn tones..  like the days and nights of beautiful autumn camping..

Rose Garden, 175 yards
Bamboo, candystriped with silver thread and 34 faceted swarvowski crystals

Autumn Sunset- 77 yards
2 ply, one organic pima cotton and one tencel.. I love how the matte and shiny plies look so good together..

I carded a few batts this week too..

Happy Friday everyone!!  Hurrah for having a day to stay home and watch the yarn p0rn come in..

So I have spun a few skeins now ...I think this is about my 5th skein or so.

This is fiber I purchased at the Wisconsin Wool and Sheep Festival in September.

Spun up two ply ... I spun this while watching my son's hockey tryouts ... so it took about 5 1/2 hours total on a spindle.

I like that it is still varied in width a little bit...  I a getting a little better, but I think I will be sad when I *lose* the beginners look of my spinning.

I am so loving the yummy yarns!  Gorgeous!

Blessings!

ohohoh!! my first fiber friday!!!    I was so excited to ge these done for today, and then I couldn't find my camera, so I had to use photobooth on my mac... these are probably pretty blurry...  But I can't wait to share.  I'm so in love with this spinning!!
Now they can't compare to everyone elses here (so much amazing stuff here!),  but they are my firsts and I'm so proud of em anyway!

Both were made with some kind of wool... I forgot to have a look at the type. And done on a drop spindle (still looking for a good deal on a wheel)  But they are super soft and I can't help but look at them and touch them 100 times a day! lol.

ok got pics, none were very good lol.  But sharing anyway Smiley

This one is a combo of hand dyed merino and top wool
http://www.goth-chics.com/fiberb.jpg

The next two are made from the same hand dyed roving, but I spun each one with a different color of crochet cotton just for fun.  merino and cotton Smiley I like how they are completely different eventhough they really only have 1 difference
http://www.goth-chics.com/fibera.jpg

http://www.goth-chics.com/fiberc.jpg

spun from another hand dyed roving.  I really like dying but the hubby could care less for me dying anything lol
http://www.goth-chics.com/fiberd.jpg

This is the only one with a name Smiley Junky stuff it's merino, aplaca, top wool & bamboo and I played with mixing core spinning, 2 ply and coils  I really like it but have no clue what on earth I'll do with it

I just got a spinning kit from weet! so I hope to be in some fiber fridays of the future Cheesy Right now I spin too tight and it gets wonky when i relax it. I haven't triet 'setting the twist' yet though, so who knows! I am having fun Cheesy

wow. so inspiring. i have spun on a drop spindle, and i may have to ditch all the work i need to get done today to go spin again. i love all the amazing colors, and the delicious looking yarns! i got a wheel a couple of years ago from a friend's mom, who said it had belonged to her mother. but i can't figure out how to work the darn thing. i may try the electric drill technique for the drop spindle that produce the beautiful Autumn Leaves yarn!

you all rock.

If you decide to try the electric drill I would suggest using a CD spindle so it's just a dowel being stuck into the drill and not a nice spindle as the drill will leave indentations in the end of your spindle.

Have you checked out the instructions/videos on http://www.joyofhandspinning.com/? That might help get you started with your wheel. Also, ask in the Spinning: Discussions and Questions forum and post some pics of your wheel...I'm willing to bet that some of our fellow fiber freaks will let you know if there are any missing parts or parts that need replacing. They'll probably also be willing to offer some tips to help you get started...they're helpful like that Smiley
