my mouth dropped when I saw those. I am so jealous!! A friend made me a pair similar to those a couple of years ago but they unraveled? any tips? (I learned how to make them, but not how to make them stronger)

Oh, cool, do you have a pic of the mitts she made you ? When I planned those I searched the web and only found very rare pics of mitts made with granny squares so it'd be nice to see yours..

As for the granny squares, I'm not too sure but maybe she didn't do any knots between changes of colors ? I always do, I'm so afraid they'd unravel.. Also, I'm thinking maybe you could double-strand the yarn with some sewing thread to add durability (always the same color of thread even when changing color of yarn)

Just an idea..  :-)

That's the best compliment you could make if this inspires you to learn to crochet... ! :-D

I learned to crochet a couple years ago and NEVER looked back, there's just SO many more possibilities when you can both knit and crochet...
