I've seen something like this before. I've also seen things like felt cakes (they are too cute) try searching them on livejournal! I don't think I have the links any more though sorry  Sad

I have a japanese book from the 80's that has these kind of felt animals, as well as a whole bunch of mini-dolls in that style. I could scan the patterns for you, just give me a day or so....
The book is called Lovable mini dolls, by Terumi Otaka. It's kinda hard to get hold of now.

I got that picture from ebay-I was doing a search for japanese felt books, I think...I would have so bought all the books but when you dont have a credit card and everyone else you know has a credit card is scared to use it on the net, its kinda hard to get it....
And the scans would be lovely!!!

 I am so sorry it took me this long   Undecided  But this is a picture of the first animal i made for a friend. She took the pic . It was my first attempt , so its not all that great lol, but they were pretty easy

I own this book and really no longer need it if anyone is interested in buying it. I'll have to see what they are going for on ebay and drop it a couple of bucks.

It's really cute and helpful. The Japanese writing doesn't make it hard to complete the patterns.

I will post my picture as soon as I can, but I live in Korea and I just completed an amazingly cute! little felt animal/person. I kept the pattern, which was surprisingly easy and took me only about 1 hour to make, in total. The pattern (and all the felt + needle +thread) came in a package and only cost about $1.50!

I don't have a book, but I DO have similar interests and access to the cute-ness.
