In the UK, 21st October is National Apple Day. To celebrate I've been spending the past week or so cooking various appley dishes, blogging about apples and undertaking other apple-themed activities!

I wanted to devise a recipe for an apple preserve and this is what I came up with:

It's Spiced Apple Jelly and is lovely with roast pork, cold meats, cheese or sasuages. It's also pretty darn good straight from the jar  Grin

Anyhow, if anyone fancies trying out the recipe, I've posted in on my blog here.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks folks.

Avian Flight - I never use commercial pectin. This recipe doesn't need it as the apples are naturally high in pectin. Also, often when I'm making jam with something low in pectin (blackberries for instance) I just add some apple - but then I do love apples!  Grin

Jelly bags can be found in most cookshops (well in the UK but I imagine it's the same in the US). Mine only cost 1.75 (about 3 dollars?) and is reusable. It allows your fruit pulp to drip through slowly so you get a nice clear jelly. You could use muslin instead but I'm not sure if you'd get such a nice clear jelly.

Anyhow, not sure if you wanted to know all that but hope that helps!

Interesting. I learned two new things! Thanks. Always good to know. Your jelly probably would taste great in a PB sandwich too.
