I finally finished my first Fat Bottom Bag from the happy hooker book!!

I opted to go with crocheted handles instead of the plastic ones - I'll be more liekly to use it this way since hard purse handles bug me.

Here is my umbrella modeling:

I used a different flower pattern - it's loosely based on this one by stitch diva: http://www.stitchdiva.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=FREE003

I have come to love the herringbone half double crochet stitch that makes up the purse - it's soooo simple and turns out a really cool texture.

that looks awesome!

i love that stitch too, it adds so much visual texture to the bag compared to a simple crochet or double crochet stitch.

That's gorgeous! My local artisans-only gift store had a bag like that on display for $120... And I even considered buying it. Ideally, I'll be able to make something like this one day.

If you've already graduated to double crochet - you can make this purse! don't be thrown off by the complicated stitch name - it's just a modified double crochet. A simple and addicting stitch.

Love the color! How did you make the strap? Is that just sc or did you crochet a flat strap and sew the edges together? I'm making purses for girls at my church and well the wooden straps are more likely to get broken and are more expensive  Undecided

yes - it's a strap of single crochet that I just sewed together into a tube and then followed the directions like it was a wooden handle Smiley

I really like that flower.  I'm going to start my fbb after the project I'm on now...maybe.  I keep finding more things I want to try!
