Well - I am totally cheap and that is one reason I craft but I love free classes - I am such a sucker for anything free!!!

so here are a list of classes that are free that I attend weekly.

On Thursday Nights at the
Home Depot in Sandy Springs
(on Ptree Dunwoody Rd - near Abernathy and Perimeter Mall)
they have been doing a
"Women Teaching Women" Class
every Thursday night at 7pm.
You can call the store and ask what the class is each week. The store manager malinda is obviously a girl and they have a huge amount of other female employees in every dept. that teach the classes. The classes are very hands on and sometime you get dirty - so come in clothes you dont mind getting grout on!  Wink

I have been going for about the last 9 months every week and have learned all sorts of great stuff including:
tiling floors, tiling backsplashes, installing hard wood floors, installing parkey floors, installing ceiling fans, potted gardens, how to make a wooden and fabric cornice board, how to use powertools, making a wooden and lattace outdoor screen, staining, faux finishes - it is such a great class if you live in atlanta you really should not pass this up - you get coupons for 10% off sometimes, they always do a raffle every time to win great stuff - and the girls in the class are all ages and we have all become friends coming every week - we are all warm and welcoming and you will never feel left out and do i have to mention again ...IT'S FREE!!!!

The Art Store (one is located just down the street from the home depot - in the shopping center with walmart on ashford dunwoody rd) offers free demos which is cool - every saturday and sunday from 1-4pm - they are really great classes (only been to one so far) but the employees are so sweet and they rock - last week i met this girl during the canvas stretching demo her name is kelli and she helped teach me to stretch my own canvas, prime it, etc and she even let me do one - which we are not really suppose to do I dont think - but it was great!!!!

they have classes every week and the scedule for the next few weeks is

Sept 20-21 -- Painted Floor Clothes
Sept 27-28 -- Photo Transfers
October 4-5 -- Mosaics
October 11-12 -- Masks
October 18-19 -- Sumi Ink
October 25-26 -- Glass Etching
November 1-2 -- Stamping Cards

thats all i know but they are both great so add more if you know of any!!!
xoxo

I called and the Home Depot said they weren't doing these classes anymore and didn't know when they would start again.  Does anyone know if any other home depot/ lowes doing anything similar over the summer?

They opened an art store on peachtree - do you think they would have classes there?  Was it a corporate program or just something the store did?

Trading Spaces do-it-herself clinic - Monday Night!
Join one of the designers from Trading Spaces at the Home Depot at Sydney Marcus Monday Night
and learn...
Tiling and Backsplash and Tabletop:

The backsplash protects the wall behind the countertop from splashes, bumps and spills. But a backsplash doesn't have to be purely functional. A tile backsplash that matches your cabinets or countertops can brighten up the entire kitchen. Once you've learned the basics of tiling, you can also use that knowledge to transform a simple table into the centerpiece of your kitchen or dining area.

Learn to:

•  Name which tools are necessary to complete the decorative projects
•  Identify where the tools for the project are located in the store
•  Recall basic safety practices for completing the project
•  Identify which tools are available for rental
•  Tile a backsplash
•  Tile a tabletop

and....

Build a Display Cube and Build a Headboard with Pickets:

Being stylish shouldn’t always mean spending a lot of money. With just a little effort, you can use inexpensive, everyday materials to add a touch of flair to projects as decorative as a headboard or as functional as a display cube.

Learn to:
•  Name which tools are necessary to build a display cube and build a headboard with pickets
•  Identify where the tools for this project are located in the store
•  Recall basic safety practices for completing the project
•  Build a display cube
•  Build a headboard with pickets

sign up at homedepotclinics.co m
for this free clinic and meet a trading spaces female designer
(cross fingers it's someone good like laurie, gen, or hilda)

also the same class is being held at S. Springs location just no trading spaces designer there!
starts at 6:30pm
xoxo

Oh no - I didn't see this in time!

I decided to stay in and finish some cabinets I'm doing since I couldn't find anyone else to go.  (Even my mother was too busy)
